I'm a 24 year old atheist.
I was raised as a catholic but never really agreed religion.When I was 16 I became "anti-religious".I couldn't understand how religions were against science , facts etc.. and manipulated people with "FAITH",but somehow I kind of believed in a some sort of god , or energy.It didn't last,I soon realized I didn't believed that either.It was hard at the beginning 'cause we are taught to hide our fears and guilt on the hope that there's a higher been who is helping us.If something bad happens people say things like "god wanted it to happen, It was for a reason" so you don't really accept the consequence of your or other's actions.On the other hand once I stopped believing in that I also realized that most of the good things that happen to you, happen because of you. You earn them, You make them happen.
It's hard because people are not very tolerant when you don't share their beliefs and they are even less tolerant when you think the opposite to their beliefs.
